Cheltenham Town Knocked Out Of The Adobe Women’s FA Cup By Lewes FC

Cheltenham Town Women suffered a 4-0 defeat to Lewes at Kayte Lane in the second round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

Goals from Leah Lane, Sarah Harvey and Chelsea Ferguson see the away side progress into the next round. 

First Half:

The game started quietly, both sides having half chances, before the game kicked into gear around the 15-minute mark. 

Anna Draper was called into action to deny Olivia Carpenter from close range, before denying Paula Howells from long range. 

Amelie Curtis tested keeper Emily Moore up the other end before Hannah Godfrey came within inches of opening the scoring, Lois Roche’s corner hitting her thigh before going behind. 

Lane did open the score for the visitors minutes later, using her pace to beat the defender and round the keeper before finishing into an empty net. 

Whilst the Robinesses were pushing for an equaliser, Lewes doubled their lead throughHarvey with a half volley from close range. 

The Rooks did have chances to extend their lead further before the end of the half, but it ended 2-0 at the break to Lewes. 

Second Half:

Skipper Emily Owen tried to inspire a comeback, her long-range effort narrowly over the bar. 

Striker Una Lue came so close to getting one goal back with 20-minutes left to play, back peddling Moore just able to tip her header over the bar. 

Libby Bell was the next to try her luck, almost catching Moore out from a free-kick, her shotfrom a tight angle narrowly over the bar. 

However, it was Lewes who scored next, adding a third through Ferguson. 

The Rooks added a fourth in added time, Lane getting her second of the afternoon. 

Cheltenham host Billericay Town next weekend at Kayte Lane as focus returns to league action.
