Preview: Portsmouth (A) FA Cup

October 22, 2026

Cheltenham Town Women return to Fratton Park this Sunday to face league rivals Portsmouth in the First Round of the Women’s FA Cup.

After last weekend’s nine-goal encounter in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division, the two teams will meet again for a spot in the FA Cup Second Round.

Goals from strikers Chloe Snook and Leo Joyce were not enough to pick up a result at Fratton Park last time out.

Both sides have entered the First Round of the competition automatically as Tier Three sides.

Last season, Pompey reached the Third Round but were knocked out by fellow WSL2 side Bristol City.

As for Cheltenham, Tom Davies’ side reached the Second Round last season, after beating Millwall Lionesses 2-0 away from home, before suffering defeat to league-rivals Lewes at Kayte Lane.

The Robinesses have been competitive in the Women’s FA Cup in recent years, reaching the Third Round proper in 2023/24 before bowing out against then WSL2 side Reading. In 2024/25, the club reached the Fourth Round, losing out to Wolves.

The two sides do have history in this competition, and faced each other in Round Two during the 2020/21 campaign, with Portsmouth scoring twice in extra time to win 2-0. The result would be reversed however, due to Pompey fielding an ineligible player. Cheltenham would go on to lose to Gillingham Women (now Chatham Town Women) in the Third Round.

For supporters unable to attend, live action updates on the club’s X account (formerly Twitter) as well as Instagram are available.
