Cheltenham Town Women suffered a 3-1 defeat against Bristol Rovers Women in the GFA Senior Cup at Kayte Lane on Sunday afternoon.
Goals from Ella Hilliard and Chloe Snook ruled out a solitary goal from Cheltenham defender Charlotte Salisbury-Williams.
First Half:
Cheltenham had the first chance of the game, Anais Trinci’s ball in inches away from being met by the head of Georgia Galley.
However, it was the visitors who took the lead early on, Hilliard heading home from Chloe Bassett’s corner.
Bella Hall came close to equalising a mere minute later, her effort headed off the line.
Bristol Rovers doubled their lead through Snook, her effort from the edge of the box giving goalkeeper Anna Draper no chance.
The Robinesses were still threatening the Gas, however, Hall delivering two crosses into the box, both not met by anyone in red and white.
It ended 2-0 to the visitors at the break.
Second Half:
Tom Davies’ side started the second half much better than the first, having numerous opportunities from set pieces, however, keeper George Hunt kept efforts from Salisbury-Williams and Trinci from out close range.
Georgia Galley had two shots on opposite sides but from two tight angles, one of them forcing a good save out of Hunt.
With 10 minutes left, Hunt spilled skipper Libby Bell’s header, only just keeping the ball out of the net.
Wingback Salisbury-Williams halved the deficit with five minutes left to go, converting Karly Norman’s low cross at the back post.
The Gas added a third in additional time, Snook slotting home for her brace.
