Cheltenham Town Women picked up all three points in a 3-2 win over local rivals Gloucester City Women at the KMM Energy Stadium in Group A of the GFA County Cup.
Goals from Louise Guymira and Bella Hall saw the Robinesses pick up the first win of 2026.
First Half:
The game started cagey, Amelie Curtis, Emily Owen and Mary Brittain all testing Gloucester keeper Katie Thatcher early on.
Libby Bell was the next to test Thatcher, meeting Owen’s ball over the top, however, the leg of the City keeper managed to keep it out.
Teammate Brittain accidentally blocked Issy Newns’ effort on goal, whilst Brittain herself was denied a few minutes later.
Played through one on one, Thatcher was again called into action to block Brittain’s effort.
Despite Cheltenham dominating possession, it ended goalless and level at the break.
Second Half:
The hosts took the lead through a set-piece, Neal’s freekick perfectly placed early into the second half.
However, substitute Guymira levelled the score minutes later, rounding keeper Thatcher before slotting home into an empty net.
Top-scorer Hall then got in on the action, and gave the Robinesses the lead, finishing Guymira’s cross into the middle brilliantly into the bottom right-hand corner.
Guymira came within inches of getting her brace, trying to poke the ball round Thatcher, however, City’s number one was alert.
Curtis forced Thatcher into another smart save with just over 10 minutes left to play, her long-range effort tipped over the bar.
Tom Davies’ side then added a third, Guymira scoring her brace, beating her marker for pace before unleashing a powerful effort into the top left-hand corner to add a third to the tally.
Anna Draper was called into action by Holly Rogers, making a good save at her near post.
Gloucester did get their second from the subsequent corner, Grey poking home from close range after the ball wasn’t cleared away.
Draper saved Cheltenham’s blushes in added time, making herself big and denying Luca Davis from levelling the score.
Despite the late pressure, Cheltenham held on and pick up all three points in their opening game of the GFA Senior Cup Group Stage.
Bristol City Under-21’s and Bristol Rovers are the other two sides in Group A, with the Robinesses hosting both sides at Kayte Lane soon. But focus returns to league action next weekend, Cheltenham making the trip to Oxford United.
Cheltenham: Draper; Trinci, Owen, Llewellyn (Evans 46), Norman, Bell; Brittain, Jones, Curtis; Newns (Guymira 46), Hall (Brady 65).
