Cheltenham Progress To Second Round of FAWNL Cup After Penalty Shoot-out Win

November 1, 2026

Cheltenham Town Women advanced to the Second Round of the FAWNL Cup after a 4-2 penalty shootout win over Bristol City PGA at the EV Charger Points Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Goals in normal time from Chloe Snook and Faye Dixon saw the game go to penalties after 90 minutes.

Cheltenham started well, with Alex Hall and Ruby Day both having shots within the opening 10 minutes of the game.

However, Chloe Jones was called into action up the other end to prevent Bristol City from getting the all-important opener.

Lilly Wellesley-Davies and Indie Power were the next to try their luck, the latter calling goalkeeper Eliska Simpson into action after running down on goal one-on-one.

Power was again denied by Simpson in added time of the first half, and at the break, it finished level and goalless.

The visitors were fastest out of the blocks in the second half, with keeper Jones called into action, tipping an ambitious effort over the bar.

However, Snook broke the deadlock for the Robinesses a minute after coming on, her rocket from the edge of the box looping over Simpson just after the hour mark.

But the hosts were pegged back not long after, Dixon’s effort from long-range nestling into the right-hand corner and tying the scoreline once again.

As the clock ticked on, Jones was called into action in the final minutes, getting down low quickly to her left-hand post to push a headed effort away from danger.

Wellesley-Davies was next to deny a potential goal for Bristol City, clearing it off the line in added time.

After Jones stepped up and saved two penalties in the shootout, Cheltenham advanced through to the Second Round of the FAWNL Cup after winning 4-2.

The Robinesses travel to Fulham next weekend as focus returns to the FAWNL Southern Premier Division.

Cheltenham: Jones; Wellesley-Davies, Hall, Vine; Murphy (Salisbury-Williams 71), Curtis, Day (Evans 60), O’Keefe, Bell; Power (Joyce 71), Galley (Snook 60)
