Preview: Lewes (A)

Cheltenham Town Women travel to East Sussex to take on Lewes Women at the Dripping Pan on Sunday afternoon (14:00pm kick-off).

Tom Davies and his side are still looking to pick up the first league win of the season but are unbeaten in two games in all competitions, after a 4-3 win against Worcester City in the FAWNL Cup and a 4-4 draw against Exeter City last weekend.

Although a goal from captain Em Owen and a hat-trick from Leo Joyce weren’t enough to pick up all three points against the Grecians last Sunday, the Robinesses did pick up their first league point at Kayte Lane.

Like Cheltenham, Lewes are still searching for their first league win of the season, but are two games unbeaten as well, after winning against Brighton and Hove Albion Under-21s in the Cup and picking up an impressive point against promotion hunters AFC Bournemouth in a 1-1 draw last weekend.

The Rooks have won both of their FAWNL Cup games so far, comfortably beating Brighton Under-21s 4-1, and Tier Four side Saltdean United 1-0 on home soil. This sees Emma Byrne’s side top of Group F, level on points with league rivals Portsmouth.

Last season, the sides met three times, twice in the league, and once in the FA Cup Second Round.

Cheltenham recorded a 2-1 win in the first clash between the two teams in the Southern Premier Division thanks to a brace from Amelie Curtis, but later lost 4-0 and 6-0 to Lewes in both the FA Cup and the league.

For supporters unable to attend Sunday’s game, live updates will be available on the club’s X account (formerly Twitter) as well as Instagram, with live commentary also available on the club’s Mixlr channel.
