Cheltenham Town held to a draw by Gwalia United in Cardiff

October 31, 2025

Cheltenham Town Women were held to a 1-1 draw by Gwalia United as the side remain unbeaten in their last four games.

Emily Owen’s penalty was ruled out by a late equaliser from Cori Williams-Mills.

First Half:

After an energetic start from Cheltenham, Gwalia forced Charlotte Haynes into a good save, Amina Vine’s cross turned shot palmed away out of danger.

Top-scorer Libby Bell was the first to test Gwalia keeper Benedicte Håland, the ball bouncing awkwardly for the Southampton loanee, but nevertheless turned behind for a corner.

The best chance of the game so far fell to the away side just after the 20th minute, skipper Owen’s header hit the post, before Meg Arnott’s effort was saved from close range and Louise Guymira’s effort was cleared off the line.

Ffion Llewellyn was on hand to turn former Cheltenham winger Daisy Ackerman’s dangerous cross away from goal, as the hosts threatened to open the scoring in the latter stages of the half.

After a very even half, the sides went in at the break goalless and level.

Second Half:

The second half finished as the first half did, slow, but Courtney Jones tested Håland just after the hour mark with a free kick.

The following corner resulted in a penalty for Cheltenham, substitute Una Lue brought down in the box, but taking a hefty blow in the process.

Unfortunately, Lue had to come off, but skipper Owen made no mistake from the spot after a lengthy delay, slotting her effort into the bottom left corner.

Minutes later, Guymira doubled the lead with a fabulous driven finish, but was adjudged to be offside by the linesman on the far side.

Fired up after the wrong decision, Guymira took aim from range, her powerful strike whisking over the bar.

After a heated discussion, manager Tom Davies was sent off by the referee for a second yellow card.

Williams-Mills levelled the game in added time, volleying home from close range from a corner.

It ended level after 90 minutes, with Cheltenham returning to action to host Lewes at Kayte Lane on Sunday.

Cheltenham: Haynes; Salisbury-Williams, Owen, Llewellyn, Evans, Bell (Trinci 58); Jones (Brittain 87), Arnott, Curtis; Hall (Lue 58 (Newns 69)), Guymira.
