Cheltenham Town suffer a 2-0 loss against top of the league side Bournemouth despite a valiant performance against a strong side.

Goals from Gemma McGuiness and Georgia Wilson sealed all three points for the hosts.

First Half:

Sophie Quirk had the first shot of the game, cutting in before unleashing a powerful effort, however, it didn’t trouble Charlotte Haynes in goal.

Louise Guymira had the best chance of the game so far around the 15-minute mark, running down on goal unmarked, her effort sailing wide of the target.

Guymira then did well less than five minutes after, getting her foot to the ball before keeper Erin Foley, but the ball fell, again, just wide of the target.

After a bit of pressure from the hosts, Bella Hall had a chance, Guymira finding her in the box, before unleashing a powerful effort that flew over the bar.

Amelie Curtis then prevented an almost certain goal for the Cherries, flying in and blockingWilson’s effort on the edge of the box.

It ended goalless and level at the break.

Second Half:

Ffion Llewellyn had the first shot of the second half, her freekick from far out off target.

Seconds later, Guymira won the ball in an attacking position, but her cross couldn’t meet Hall in the box.

Haynes was then called into action, clawing the ball away before saving the rebound.

However, minutes later, the opponents did get their opener, McGuiness’ effort deflecting in off the unfortunate Llewellyn.

Quirk had a chance to double Bournemouth’s lead after the game had slowed down, cutting in on the right-hand side, her curled effort a whisper wide.

Cheltenham thought they had an equaliser through Guymira, however, the goal was ruled out for offside.

Quirk was really pushing for her goal, Haynes denying her again as the scoreline remained 1-0 to the hosts with 15 minutes left to go.

With just 10 minutes left on the clock, the Cherries got their second, Wilson on hand to pounce in the box, her effort hit low and hard into the bottom right corner.

Action in the FAWNL Cup returns next week, as Cheltenham make the short trip to Kidderminster Harriers.

The Robinesses sit top of Group F after wins against Worcester City and Birmingham City Under-21s earlier this season.
